Here is a suggested procedure for writing activities, emphasizing the process of writing:

First, help students generate ideas.

Present the topic, and explain the directions for the task.

With the class, brainstorm useful vocabulary and write it on the board.

Have students make notes of ideas they would like to include in their writing. If desired, have them make a mind map of their ideas.
