If you have enough time in the course, consider having
students give poster presentations. Have students work in pairs or groups to
collect information on a chosen or assigned topic (for example, a country or
an endangered species of animal). They then prepare a poster on a very large
sheet of paper, with visual information on their topic to teach their classmates.
On presentation day, hang the posters around the classroom
walls. Have half the students stand by their posters explaining them, while
the other half walk around reading and listening. Then they switch roles. If
desired, you can finish with a dictated quiz on key information from the posters,
and/or a whole-class discussion of what students learned from them.
