You will want to assign independent reading to your students to improve their reading fluency, their comprehension and their vocabulary.

The independent reading allows them the opportunity to apply their newly-learned reading strategies from the Student Edition.

The independent reading can be incorporated into "sustained silent reading" periods, as warm-ups, as bell-ringer activities while everyone is entering the classroom and getting settled, and as a closing activity at the end of the period or school day.
